From the YOCPA Academies to the International Stage with Mendelssohn’s Symphonies

18/08/2026

The Mendelssohn’s Symphonies programme, presented on 16 August 2026 at the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus and set to arrive at the Berlin Philharmonie on 29 August, is the direct result of the work developed within the YOCPA – Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies project.

The symphonic programme brings together two emblematic works by Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 “Scottish” and Symphony No. 4 “Italian”, each explored during a different academy within the project.

The Scottish Symphony was studied in 2025 as part of the academy dedicated to Die erste Walpurgisnacht, while the Italian Symphony was explored in 2023 during the academy dedicated to Ein Sommernachtstraum (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). This production therefore represents the culmination of a pedagogical and artistic process that began during these academies, enabling the young musicians to explore Mendelssohn’s symphonic repertoire in depth alongside the expert musicians of Le Concert des Nations.

This production features 10 musicians trained through the YOCPA project, reflecting the professional continuity offered by the academies and the progressive integration of young performers into the ensemble’s artistic productions.
