On 11 May, Jordi Savall brought the El So Original season at L’Auditori Barcelona to a close with Venetian Baroque at the Ospedale della Pietà, a programme devoted to the musical world of Antonio Vivaldi and the extraordinary works written for Venice’s Ospedale della Pietà.
Performed before an almost sold-out audience, the concert received an enthusiastic response from the public. It featured Les Musiciennes du Concert des Nations, La Capella Reial de Catalunya (female voices) and an outstanding group of soloists in an entirely female performance, paying tribute to the young women musicians of the Pietà while highlighting the essential role of women in the history of music.
The project also marked the second academy of the European programme YOCPA 2.0 (Young Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies) this year, reaffirming the Fundació CIMA’s commitment to the training and professional development of the next generation of historically informed performers. On this occasion, the academy brought together an all-female ensemble inspired by the musicians of the Ospedale della Pietà, reviving not only Vivaldi’s repertoire but also the educational and artistic spirit of this unique institution.
The programme, featuring such celebrated works as the Gloria RV 589, the Magnificat RV 611 and the Concerto “Per la Solennità di S. Lorenzo” RV 562, received excellent reviews from both audiences and critics, who praised the outstanding performances, Jordi Savall’s musical vision and the remarkable artistry of all the participating ensembles.
With this concert, another successful season of El So Original came to a close, once again confirming the audience’s enthusiasm for programmes that combine historical rigour, artistic excellence and a renewed perspective on Europe’s musical heritage.
