Maestro Jordi Savall will once again cross the Atlantic this April for a new tour of the United States and Canada, taking place from 8 to 21 April 2026. The itinerary includes eight North American and Canadian cities and will bring to international stages the programme “Songs, Battles and Dances. From the Old & the New World (1100-1780)”, a project exploring the musical connections between Europe, the Americas, and Afro-American traditions.

The tour will begin on 8 April in Athens and continue to Worcester (11/04), Boston (12/04), Hanover (13/04), New York (14/04), and St. Paul (16/04). In Canada, the ensemble will perform in Montreal on 18 April and conclude the tour in Berkeley on 21 April.

The programme offers a musical journey spanning more than six centuries, from European medieval music to 18th-century repertoires from the Americas. Starting with pieces by troubadours such as Marcabru, moving through the Renaissance polyphony of Josquin des Prés and the instrumental dances of Pierre Attaingnant, Savall traces a path that engages with Sephardic traditions, mestizo musics, and Afro-American spirituals. Slave songs, such as Another Man Done Gone, bring an emotional and historical dimension, directly connecting with the memory of the African diaspora.

The second part of the programme continues this intercultural dialogue with works by Salomone Rossi, Orlando Gibbons, and Juan García de Zéspedes, as well as pieces drawn from the Codex Trujillo of Peru (c. 1780), reflecting the rich musical heritage of colonial America.

For this tour, Jordi Savall is joined by his regular ensembles, La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Hespèrion XXI, along with a distinguished group of international guest musicians. Among them are Canadian singer Neema Bickersteth, specialist in Afro-American repertoire; baritone Yannis François from Guadeloupe; and the Mexican group Tembembe Ensamble Continuo, with Ada Coronel and Ulises Martínez. This diversity of performers reinforces the spirit of the project, which is rooted in dialogue between cultures and traditions.

Songs, Battles and Dances present an immersive musical and historical experience, faithful to Savall’s style: musicological rigor, artistic sensitivity, and a profound commitment to memory and cultural diversity.
