Jordi Savall closes in Berlin the homage paid to him by the Berliner Philharmoniker with Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Requiem

11/03/2026

Berlin, 16 March 2026 – On Monday, 16 March, Jordi Savall will conduct at the Main Auditorium of the Berliner Philharmoniker, as part of the “Originalklang” series, the final concert of the homage that the prestigious Berlin institution has dedicated to him this season. This concert will conclude a series of activities recognizing the international career of the Catalan master, one of the most influential figures in the rediscovery and dissemination of historical musical heritage. The concert comes shortly after his debut as conductor with the Berlin ensemble, a particularly significant moment in his artistic trajectory.

For this occasion, Savall will lead his own ensembles, La Capella Nacional de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations, in a program devoted to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring two of his most emblematic works composed in the last year of his short life, 1791.

The first part of the concert will include the Clarinet Concerto in A major, KV 622 (1791). This will be the first time Jordi Savall conducts this work, performed in its historical version for clarinetto di bassetto, restoring the instrument for which Mozart originally wrote the solo part. The work will be performed by Francesco Spendolini, first clarinet of Le Concert des Nations and a renowned clarinet soloist, specialized in historically informed performance.

The second part of the concert will feature one of the most moving and universal works of the Salzburg composer, the Requiem in D minor, KV 626 (1791), one of the first major works Jordi Savall recorded in 1991 with La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations, and, 31 years later, he has recorded it again with La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, after performing it numerous times across Europe.

For this concert, an outstanding ensemble of around fifty singers and musicians will be assembled on stage: soprano Lina Johnson, mezzo-soprano Eva Zaïck, tenor David Fischer, and baritone Manuel Walser, La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, prepared by Lluís Vilamajó, and the orchestra Le Concert des Nations, all under the direction of Jordi Savall.

The concert, with all tickets sold out long ago, will conclude this tribute by the Berlin institution to Jordi Savall, in order to celebrate an artistic career that has profoundly shaped the revival of historically informed performance and the dissemination of European musical heritage.
