Le Concert des Nations, nominated for Orchestra of the Year 2025 at the Gramophone Awards

07/07/2025

The ensemble conducted by Jordi Savall competes with major international orchestras in one of the most prestigious categories in the music world. Public voting is open until 18 August.

The orchestra Le Concert des Nations, founded in 1989 by musician and conductor Jordi Savall, has been nominated for the 2025 Gramophone Classical Music Awards as Orchestra of the Year, one of the most distinguished recognitions in the classical music world. The selection, made by the editorial team of the prestigious British magazine Gramophone, includes only six internationally renowned ensembles. It is also the only category of the awards where the winner is decided by public vote.

This nomination is a significant recognition of the ensemble’s outstanding artistic and recording career, particularly for its recent work on classical and romantic symphonic repertoire performed with historical criteria and period instruments. Founded with the aim of recovering Europe’s musical heritage from the Renaissance to the Romantic period, Le Concert des Nations has earned international acclaim from both audiences and critics for its artistic quality, musicological rigor, and expressive vitality in its performances.

Among its most recent recordings are the oratorio The Creation by Joseph Haydn, the complete symphonies of Beethoven (Beethoven Révolution), A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendelssohn, and the latest productions dedicated to Robert Schumann and Anton Bruckner (Forgotten Symphonies), all released under the Alia Vox label.

The importance of international recognition

Gramophone, regarded as the magazine with “the best classical music reviews in the world,” awards the Orchestra of the Year prize through a public vote – the only category of the Gramophone Awards decided by the audience. This prize acknowledges not only artistic excellence but also the orchestra’s ability to connect with a global audience.

This edition highlights an ensemble born from an independent initiative, founded with a dedication to education and cultural heritage, and a strong commitment to historically and humanistically informed performance.

Voting remains open until 18 August 2025 via the official magazine website: 👉 https://www.gramophone.co.uk/static-pages/vote25

A unique trajectory

With over 35 years of history, Le Concert des Nations is the first orchestra primarily composed of musicians from Mediterranean countries dedicated to the repertoire spanning 1600 to 1850. The orchestra is part of a set of projects led by Jordi Savall –alongside Hespèrion XXI and La Capella Reial de Catalunya– that have placed historical music at the heart of Europe’s cultural scene.
