YOCPA project

Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies

Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies (YOCPA) is a project conceived and directed by Jordi Savall, managed by the Fundació Centre Internacional de Música Antiga (Fundació CIMA), and supported by the European Union.

This initiative offers training and professional opportunities to emerging musicians through both in-person and online academies. Each academy lasts between 8 and 12 days, during which the orchestra and choir members study, rehearse, and perform the artistic repertoire under the direction of Jordi Savall and Lluís Vilamajó.

The impact of the YOCPA project stems from the diversity of our ensembles, which bring together three different profiles: established musicians with more than 25 years of experience performing with Le Concert des Nations, young professional musicians who took part in the first academies, and new talents selected through the audition process.

To ensure this balance within our ensembles, we follow the following formula:

Our goal is to ensure equal access to the job opportunities we offer, balancing different levels of experience within the academies and concerts.

The program is divided into two phases:

This training phase, lasting 4 to 6 days, serves as an introduction where young musicians —selected through the audition process— take part in their first collaborative experience with experienced members of the orchestra and choir. The work plan combines sectional training and full ensemble rehearsals, encouraging both individual growth and teamwork.

Advanced Academy. Also lasting 4 to 6 days, this intensive phase takes place at the Collegiate Church of Sant Vicenç in Cardona, an ideal space both acoustically and architecturally for recording a CD. During this academy, musicians receive payment for each working day and concert, with fees that follow the standards of the European artistic scene. In addition, the program guarantees:
