Beethoven represents a turning point in music history, and these symphonies clearly show his genius. They include some of his most monumental works:
-
Symphony No. 3, “Eroica” – originally dedicated to Napoleon.
-
Symphony No. 5 – famous for its four-note motif known as the “Fate motif.”
-
Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral” – evokes nature and countryside scenes.
-
Symphony No. 7 – described by Richard Wagner as “the apotheosis of dance.”
To prepare these works, an advanced training academy will be held from 16 to 20 February 2025 in Bari, Italy. The academy will include 51 musicians, half of whom will be women, and half will be young musicians under 39 years old.
Following the academy, three concerts will take place:
-
Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari, Italy – 18 February 2025
-
Wiener Konzerthaus, Vienna, Austria – 21 February 2025
-
Wiener Konzerthaus, Vienna, Austria – 23 February 2025
This academy continues the series of “Beethoven Academies” held from 2019 to 2021, which explored all nine symphonies across four main sessions:
-
2019 Spring: Symphonies 1, 2 & 4
-
2019 Autumn: Symphonies 3 & 5
-
2020 Spring: Symphonies 6 & 7
-
2020 Autumn: Symphonies 8 & 9
The work is led by Jordi Savall, with concertmaster Jakob Lehmann, assistant concertino Manfredo Kraemer, and the core musicians of Le Concert des Nations.
